What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy treats trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders among other things. EMDR is an extensively researched psychotherapy and is an effective trauma treatment. EMDR has proven to help people recover and heal by resolving unprocessed memories or reprocessing memories that were processed incorrectly the first time.
How does EMDR work?
EMDR therapy uses a technique called bilateral stimulation to activate the reprocessing of memories. Bilateral stimulation can be activated by using eye movements, auditory or sensory techniques.
EMDR activates the brain to reprocess memories which eliminates the distressing symptoms caused by the memory and allows the person to see different perspectives about the memory. EMDR therapists help clients with many issues including PTSD, anxiety and childhood and relationship issues.
